What Do Curators Want?

I can’t listen to music while I’m working in the studio. I find it hopelessly distracting. On the other hand, I can listen to audio books for hours on end without the incessant chatter of some stranger’s voice disturbing my work flow. This makes no sense, but no matter.

When I can’t find an audiobook that suits my fancy, I like to catch up on my podcast listening. I came across the Side Street Project’s website about a year ago and I couldn’t stop listening.

“What Do Curators Want” a fantastic podcast series that addresses some really important issues of professional practices for contemporary visual artists from the view point of curators, both museum and independent, and gallery dealers in Los Angeles. That said, I don’t think this information is any less valuable to an artist in New York, Texas, or Iowa for that matter.

  1. I'm so happy to read this. I also put on talk radio for the soothing comfort of chatter--it has the odd effect of opening my mind. I do it when I'm walking too!

  2. I'm the opposite. Music really works for me, but I easily lose focus on audio books then I get frustrated with myself. Love the painting in the post above!
