The Cult of Done Manifesto

A collaborative effort by Bre Pettis and Kio Stark. They wrote it on 20 minutes...because that's all the time they had to get it DONE!

done

1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.

2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.

3. There is no editing stage.

4. Pretending you know what you're doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you're doing even if you don't and do it.

5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.

6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.

7. Once you're done you can throw it away.

8. Laugh at perfection. It's boring and keeps you from being done.

9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.

10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.

11. Destruction is a variant of done.

12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.

13. Done is the engine of more.

  1. I love this Kesha.

    Number 4 is brilliant.

A personal example - I see myself as pretty quiet and shy and antisocial almost, but I teach people to dance salsa, usually in classes of 20 - 40 people.

A friend asked me, if I was so shy, how do I do something so public as that, something that most people would be terrified of doing?

I thought about what I do, and said, well I just turn up, act confident, and as if I know what I'm doing, try to have fun, and it just kind of works. : )

  2. I love #4 too. The thing that I've learned is that pretending you know what you're doing FEELS the same as knowing what you are doing.

    Once I FEEL like I know---I get sh*t done!

    Does that make sense!

  3. THANK YOU!

What a fabulous poster this would make for all the places I stare off towards.

Kio Stark is a childhood friend of mine. I love it when that happens!

  5. @Anna- GET OUT! The world is so small now. I can literally hear it shrinking.
