Knowing When to "Let Go" and Move On to Make Room For Something New?

A few years ago, while on a weekend trip to London, I read my horoscope in the Sunday Times:

I've always loved horoscopes, but this one was so spot on at the time that it gave me goose bumps. I cut it out of the paper and I carried it around in my wallet for nearly two years.

As artists we all have projects that don't quite live up to our expectations, or avenues that end up turning into dead ends. Or perhaps it's just a project, job, or relationship that no longer serves you or brings you joy.

The trick is to know when to let go of that vision and shift your energy and your focus in a new direction.

How do you know when it's time to "let go" and move on from an idea, project, or situation, in order to make room for something new?

BIG Love,

  1. I just posted on my blog about this topic, lol!! I've forced myself to be less emotionally attached to my work, I try to be objective. There are so many ideas in my sketchbooks and so many lovely fabrics in my stash waiting to be used - so why continue with a project if it's fighting me, or if I've started to hate it? I either put it away and come back to it with a fresh perspective (sometimes years later) or I cut it up and use the fabric for something else.

I discovered your blog today through Lisa Call's blog and I've already learned so much from just the half dozen or so posts I've read. I'm looking forward to reading through your archives. Thank you for the great info!

    1. Hey Marie! I agree.

When it comes to studio work, I tend to wrestle with things, but then again, why not just move on and let something else be easy?

I don't want to be one of those people who thinks everything good has to come from blood, sweat, and tears.

      Fresh perspective indeed!

Thanks for clicking over from Lisa's place.
