How To Get Sh*T DONE!

Too often I see my consulting clients get stuck in "preparation mode".

My simple answer to this problem: "The Done Manifesto".

A collaborative effort by Bre Pettis and Kio Stark, "The Done Manifesto" was written in 20 minutes...because that's all the time they had to get it DONE!

1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.

2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.

3. There is no editing stage.

4. Pretending you know what you're doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you're doing even if you don't and do it.

5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.

6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.

7. Once you're done you can throw it away.

8. Laugh at perfection. It's boring and keeps you from being done.

9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.

10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.

11. Destruction is a variant of done.

12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.

13. Done is the engine of more.

So there you have it.

Learn it. Live it.

Get sh*t done.

BIG Love,

-Kesha

  1. Hahahahahaha! This so made my morning! And, yes, things will be getting done today in one form or another.

I look at everything I do once I step into the studio as getting sh*t done. If I only have an hour or two and not painting, I'll make sure to get something else done, like prepping new surfaces to work on later, mixing paints, or just straightening the space up a bit. All of my time in there is accounted for in some way. I don't like wasting time wringing my hands about "what to do". There's always something to be done. Just get to it!

    2. I totally agree, Tim! Sometimes you just have to go in there and DO something. Anything. Even if it's just grunt work. Or in my case---cleaning brushes _constantly_.

Get it done so you can get onto the next step.

"Done is the engine of more."
